Doğduğu Şehir ve Ailesi:

Atatürk 1981 yılında Selanik’te doğdu. Selanik o zaman Rumeli’nde yer alan Osmanlıya ait bir kentti ve Osmanlının Avrupa ile ticaretinde önemli bir konuma sahipti. Günümüzde Yunanistan’a ait bir şehirdir. Ancak günümüzde müze olarak kullanılan Atatürk’ün doğduğu evi ziyaret etmek mümkündür.

Ailesi: Mustafa Kemal’in ailesi Rumeli’nin fethi sırasında Anadolu’dan götürülerek Selanik’e yerleştirilen Türk Boylarından birisidir.

Babası Ali Rıza Efendinin Ailesi Aydın Söke tarafındandır. Annesi Zübeyde Hanım ise Konya’dan Rumeli’ye göç eden bir ailenin kızıdır.

İyi bir eğitim almış olan Ali Rıza Efendi gümrük memurluğu yapmıştır. Geçim sıkıntısı sebebi ile daha sonra ticaret ile uğraşmıştır. Annesi Zübeyde Hanım ise bayağı kültürlüydü. Aile döneminin şartlarına göre orta halli bir yaşam sürmüştür.

Öğrencilik Hayatı ve İlk Görevi: Mahalle mektebine kısa süre giden Mustafa eğitim hayatına Şemsi Efendi Mektebinde devam etmiştir. Mahalle mekteplerinden farklı olarak bu okulda yeni eğitim yöntemleri uygulanmakta, okumayı yazmayı kolaylaştıracak araç ve gereçler kullanılmaktaydı. Modern eğitim ve öğretim yapan bu okul Mustafa’nın fikirsel gelişimini olumlu yönde etkiledi. Mustafa bu okulda okurken babası Ali Rıza Efendini ölümü üzerine Zübeyde Hanım çocukları ile beraber Selanik yakınlarında yaşayan kardeşi Hüseyin Efendinin çalıştığı çiftliğe yerleşti. Babasının “ adam olmak için okumak öğrenmek sanattır; başka çare yoktur” sözünü dikkate alarak Mustafa annesinin de onayı ile Selanik’e Dönerek teyzesinin yanında öğrenimine devam etti.

Selanik sokaklarında gördüğü üniformalı subaylar Mustafa’nın çok ilgisini çekiyordu. Özellikle komşusu Kadri Bey’in askeri okula giden oğluna imrenerek bakıyordu. Mustafa bu duygular içinde Selanik Askeri Rüştiyesi (ortaokul) sınavlarına girerek sınavı kazandı. Böylece üstün Başarılarla dolu askerlik hayatına başlamış oldu. İyi bir öğrenci olan Mustafa tüm öğretmenlerinin kısa sürede dikkatini çekti özellikle Yüz Başı Mustafa Bey onunla yakından ilgilendi. Bir gün Mustafa’nın derslerde gösterdiği başarıdan etkilenen öğretmeni ona “senin adında Mustafa benim adımda. Bu böyle olmayacak aramızda bir fark bulunmalı. Bundan sonra senin adın Mustafa Kemal olsun.” Demiştir.

Mustafa Kemal Selanik Askeri Rüştiyesini bitirdikten sonra 1895 yılında Manastır Askeri İdadisine (lise) başladı. Mustafa kemal derslerde gösterdiği başarıyla hem öğretmenlerinin hem de arkadaşlarının takdirini kazandı. Bu okulda arkadaşı Ömer Naci sayesinde edebiyata ve hitabeye ilgi duymaya başladı. Mustafa Kemal’in edebiyata olan ilgisini gören edebiyat öğretmeni Mehmet Asım Bey askerlik ile ilgili olan derslerle daha fazla önem vermesini önermiştir. Mustafa Kemal Öğretmeni Mehmet Asım Beyin bu uyarısını dikkate almış ancak edebiyata olan ilgisi her zaman sürmüştür. Genç Mustafa Kemal Askeri öğreniminin yanı sıra izinli olarak Selanik’e döndüğü zaman ise Fransızca dersleri almıştır.

Askeri idadide de Mustafa Kemal’in sevdiği derslerden birisi de tarihti. Tarih öğretmeni Kol Ağası Mehmet Tevfik Bey’in tarih bilinci onda tarihe ilgi uyandırmıştır. Mustafa Kemal’in idadide başlayan bu tarih sevgisi hayatın sonuna kadar daha da artarak devam etmiştir.

Mustafa Kemal Manastır Askeri İdadisini bitirerek 1899 yılında Harp Okuluna girdi. 1902 yılında teğmen rütbesi ile mezun oldu. Öğrenimine Harp Akademisinde devam ederek 1905 yılında “kurmay yüzbaşı” rütbesi ile mezun oldu. Ülke sorunları ile ilgilenmesi düşüncelerini cesaret ile ifade etmesi öğrencilik yıllarından itibaren onun aydın bir subay olarak tanınmasını sağladı.

Kurmay Yüz başı Mustafa Kemal öğrenimini tamamladıktan sonra 5 Şubat 1905 tarihinde stajını yapmak üzere ilk görev yeri Şam’da ki 5. Orduya atandı. Burada bir süre görev yaptıktan sonra merkezi Manastırda bulunan 3. Ordu karargâhında görevlendirildi.

23 Nisan 1920 Mustafa Kemal Ankara’da Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisini açtı.

1 Kasım 1922 Büyük Millet Meclisi Gazi Mustafa Kemal’in Halifeliğin Kaldırılması yönünde ki önerisini kabul etti.

12 Nisan 1931 Gazi Mustafa Kemal Türk Dil Kurumunu Kurdu.

29 Ekim 1923 Cumhuriyeti Kurdu. Hâkimiyet kayıtsız ve şartsız milletindir. İdare usulü halkın mukadderatını bizzat ve bilfiil idare etmesi esasına dayanır. Türkiye Devletinin hükümet şekli cumhuriyettir
